Luca Guadagnino and Daniel Craig are reportedly reuniting for a Sgt. Rock film at DC Studios, according to Deadline. An Oscar-nominated director, Guadagnino is expected to tackle the project before his upcoming American Psycho reboot for Lionsgate. The film’s script, written by Challengers and Queer scribe Justin Kuritzkes, is said to be “in strong shape.”
The Sgt. Rock project is set to join James Gunn and Peter Safran’s slate at DC Studios, alongside Superman: Legacy, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and the animated Creature Commandos. While no deals have been finalized with Guadagnino or Craig, the film would mark a unique addition to the Gods and Monsters Phase One of the DC Universe. NexusPointNews initially reported the pairing back in September, and Deadline has now confirmed the rumor.
What we know about Sgt. Rock
Better known as Sgt. Rock, Sgt. Franklin John Rock first appeared in Our Army at War #83 in June 1959. Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, the character is a World War II infantryman leading the Easy Company unit. Sgt. Rock has become a staple of war stories at DC Comics.
While details of the storyline are being kept under wraps, it’s unclear which comic arcs or issues the movie will adapt. The collaboration between Guadagnino and Craig follows their work on Queer, which is scheduled to be released in the United States in a limited theatrical release on November 27. The A24 movie is said to be a strong awards contender.
