Lucasfilm Games and Skydance New Media are working together to bring a new Star Wars action-adventure game to life.
Skydance New Media was founded by Skydance Media in 2019 as a new video game development studio. The company is headed by award-winning writer and director, Amy Hennig, whose previous video game credits include the Jak and Daxter, Legacy of Kain and Uncharted series. The Star Wars project will mark the studio’s second major collaboration, following an announcement last year that Skydance New Media would be working with Marvel Entertainment to deliver an original vision of the Marvel universe.
Speaking about the new project, Hennig referred to the influence Star Wars has had on her creative career, saying:
“I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly … I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.”
While no details concerning the plot of the new game have been announced, it is being described as “a narrative-driven, action-adventure game featuring an original story in the Star Wars galaxy.” The game marks Lucasfilm Games’ first collaboration with Skydance New Media, but is the latest of several Star Wars games announced to be in development under Disney’s revitalized Lucasfilm Games banner. Other Star Wars projects currently in the works under Lucasfilm Games, in collaboration with other game development studios, include a Knights of the Old Republic remake, Star Wars Eclipse and a sequel to 2019’s Jedi: Fallen Order.
Speaking about the new project, Lucasfilm Games’ Vice President Douglas Reilly said:
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working again with Amy. She and the Skydance New Media team have the talent and ambition to create a unique Star Wars adventure … Their vision for making narrative driven and engaging interactive entertainment makes this collaboration very exciting. We’re working hard with their team of experienced and talented developers, and we’re looking forward to sharing more with Star Wars fans when the time is right.”
