We are less than two months away from the arrival of the third Marvel series on Netflix as Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter, as everyone’s favorite Power Man begins his adventures in Harlem, New York, after getting introduced in Season 1 of Jessica Jones, the 2nd series in the franchise.
Last week, Heroic Hollywood participated in the Luke Cage Press Room at San Diego Comic-Con where cast and crew of the series attended to talk about what went into making this series, bringing Luke and his world to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We spoke with Colter himself as well as Cheo Hoadri Coker who is the show-runner and executive producer on the series. Throughout the interview, the duo discusses large themes of Luke Cage and going beyond just telling the story of a man with special gifts in a world of superheroes.
Highlights from the roundtable interview:
-What it is like to make comic book TV history with Luke Cage being the first African-American lead superhero show.
-The larger overall connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and how it helps in telling the stories in the season.
-The experience of shooting in the real Harlem which serves as a big character of itself in the series.
-Luke’s state of mind of being a “superhero” and how it leads into The Defenders (which will be coming to Netflix next year).
-What has been some of Colter’s most special moments with fans that look up to his portrayal of Luke Cage and the character as a whole.
“After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive who attempts to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But soon he is pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.”
Marvel’s Luke Cage Season 1 will be released exclusively on Netflix on Friday, September 30. Stay tuned for more roundtables with the cast and crew of Luke Cage.
