The Hollywood Reporter just dropped a major scoop. Hot off of voicing Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Raksha in The Jungle Book, it looks like Lupita Nyong’o will be staying in the Disney fold for a few more years.
According to THR, Lupita Nyong’o is currently in talks to star in Black Panther. Character details haven’t been disclosed, but they state that she will be the love interest to Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther.
Black Panther just made his big screen debut in Captain America: Civil War. Since then, Chadwick Boseman has been hit with praise for his portrayal of T’Challa/Black Panther. Boseman easily stole the show and that’s an enormous feat to accomplish, with such a large and amazing cast.
There are a few possible characters she could be playing. I don’t know many of Black Panther’s love interests besides his wife, Storm. Marvel definitely doesn’t have the rights to us her. But, If I were a betting man, Lupita could be cast as Monica Lynne or Malaika. Monica Lynne has been in an on again off again relationship with T’Challa in a few stories and Malaika was the Wakandan trade envoy, who clearly had something with T’Challa.
Is Nyong’o perfect casting for the Black Panther solo film? Who do you think she’s playing? Sound off in the comment section.
Not much is known about the Black Panther solo film. Ryan Coogler is directing, Chadwick Boseman is starring and a lot of other MCU characters with ties to Wakanda are expected to have a role. Andy Serkis’ Ulysses S. Klaue and Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross are rumored to return. Black Panther hits theaters February 16th, 2018.
