Mads Mikkelsen Teases The Return Of Kaecilius In A Future Marvel Film

Mads Mikkelsen, like many brilliant actors before him, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe for one reason, and one reason only: to play a badass villain. In this month’s Doctor Strange, the Casino Royale star portrays Kaecilius, the first real foe for Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular character. In the film, it is revealed that the character was a student of Tilda Swinton’s The Ancient One, before going rogue and finding power in dark magic. Minor spoilers ahead, by the way. In the film’s climax, Doctor Strange bargains with Dormammu, asking him to leave Earth, and take his followers with him. Of course, Mikkelsen’s Kaecilius is one of them.

In a new interview with Cinemablend, the actor revealed if he was keen to return to the role in an inevitable sequel:

I don’t know. He was not looking too sharp in the end of this movie, but you never know.

Of course, Mikkelsen may be teasing us, but who knows? The MCU is such a vast and unique pool that we really have no clue on what could happen next. Unlike many MCU villains, Mikkelsen’s character was not killed off in his first appearance, which leaves the possibility of a return well and truly open. When Cinemablend’s Eric Eisenberg told Mikkelsen this, he responded:

Yeah, it’s like [snaps] a blink of an eye away.

So, what do you guys think? Would you like to see the Rogue One star return to the role? Personally, I found his character to be one of the film’s finest elements. If Mikkelsen wanted to return in Avengers: Infinity War or Doctor Strange 2, you would not see me complaining!

Doctor Strange is in theatres now, but you can catch Mikkelsen in the upcoming Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One, which hits theatres on December 15.

I’m tellin’ ya, Thanos is gonna bring all the hereos’ greatest villains, andor the ones killed with Infinity Stones back. Although, I don’t know why it would be limited to that. And it might be hard to get the actors back. Also, I thought he was dead

The 3 bad guys just kind of floated off into the sky kind of like Loki in Thor. If they are spending all eternity with Dormamu he might ask them to go back to earth to do his bidding.

I too am a subscriber to the concept of Thanos returning the villains defeated by Infinity Stones (Red Skull, Malekith, Ronan, and Ultron). It would be awesome for him to marshal them as his lieutenants.

Mads’ character wasn’t killed by the infinity stone. If he were to return it would be at the behest of Dormammu.

Nah…Thanos already has his lieutenants to do his bidding…he doesn’t need other villains.

It’s gonna take more than Loki for this, he already failed once. Even Zemo came closer than him

LOL obviously not… for God’s sake we are talking about the MCU, the company known for despising all of it’s villains and worshiping Taylor’s boyfriend xDxD
