Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali recently discussed Blade some more before the Marvel Studios film goes into production.

The Blade film that was announced back in 2019 is finally moving forward, with filming reportedly starting in the summer. We know so far that Delroy Lindo will join Mahershala Ali with director Bassam Tariq at the helm.

During a recent appearance on The Last Show with Stephen Colbert, Mahershala Ali talked about how Blade differs from his other well-known roles:

“It feels different, there’s clearly an added layer of pressure, which I will embrace. It is weird, because the anticipation is so great. My excitement for any role is pretty equal, honestly, because I feel the responsibility is always the same. But, I’ve never walked into a role where the anticipation was so great. Where people were already so familiar with the character and have real opinions and points of view and all of that.”

Mahershala Ali also looked back on his first day on the job as Blade for the Eternals post-credits scene:

“Like I was losing sleep over this line because, ideally, you want to be talking once you are filming. And 100% of the times, my first day on any set, on any job, I hate it. Like, I hate how I sound, I don’t believe myself, you know, and so you’re trying to like get comfortable in the character. So to have to talk before you’re even actually filming was challenging, but I’m grateful for it, because it made it feel real. I made it… It’s like ‘Okay, now we’re going.'”

Here is a synopsis for Eternals:

“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”

Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

Eternals is now in theaters. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding Mahershala Ali’s upcoming Blade film, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
