‘Man of Steel’ Actor Michael Shannon Comments on Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’

Man of Steel General Zod Michael Shannon Justice League Zack Snyder

Man of Steel actor Michael Shannon has commented on how it’s shameful that Zack Snyder’s vision for Justice League wasn’t able to come intro fruition.

One of the absolute standouts from Man of Steel, which kicked off the DC Extended Universe, was Michael Shannon’s performance as the maniacal General Zod. In Man of Steel, Shannon’s Zod caused innumerable damage to Metropolis before getting his neck snapped from Superman, resulting in his death. While Shannon may be out of the DC Extended Universe, his reverence for director  Zack Snyder still stands.

In a recent interview with JoBlo, Michael Shannon discussed how loved working with Zack Snyder on Man of Steel as well as his recent family tragedy. In doing so, Shannon praised the director and commented on how his vision for Justice League couldn’t be fulfilled.

“I love working with Zack Snyder and I think it’s very sad-he’s been through a lot of hardship recently-I don’t know what happened with that whole DC thing. I think it’s a shame. I mean, his vision for MAN OF STEEL I thought was incredible. I don’t know how that all went off the rails, but I think it’s a shame.”

The Man of Steel actor continued by discussing how he doesn’t know what happened with Snyder’s intended vision for Justice League and the DC Extended Universe, as well as the capacity of his brief role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

“I don’t know what happened. People think I’m in Batman v Superman, which I guess I am, for like fifteen seconds. I’m mainly in Batman v Superman as a giant, naked, rubber dummy, which I didn’t have anything to do with really.”

Back in 2016, it was revealed that Michael Shannon wasn’t actually on set as the body that Lex Luthor was toying around with. Shannon’s capacity in reprising his Man of Steel role for Batman v Superman was merely recording some ADR lines. As for his comments on Zack Snyder’s vision, it seems that Shannon was quite passionate and proud to be working with the famed director. Fans have continued to advocate for Snyder’s version of the Justice League, and while Shannon doesn’t actively join the movement, he does confirm that it’s a shame fans never got to see the maestro’s expected version.
