Margot R0bbie has confirmed that Jared Leto’s Joker doesn’t appear in Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.
Australian actress Margot Robbie made her debut as Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad and is set to reprise her role as the DC Comics anti-heroine in the highly-anticipated Birds of Prey, which follows the character after she leaves the Joker. However, Jared Leto won’t be back as the Clown Prince of Crime for Birds of Prey.
During a recent interview with Variety, Margot Robbie revealed that Jared Leto’s take on the Joker doesn’t make an appearance in the upcoming Birds of Prey movie. Here’s what’s mentioned about Jared Leto’s Joker in the Variety piece:
“The movie, as its subtitle implies, starts after Harley’s breakup with the Joker. Robbie confirms that Leto’s incarnation of the character doesn’t appear, not even as a cameo.”
Margot Robbie is producing Birds of Prey alongside Sue Kroll and Bryan Unkeless. The project centers around the titular team of female heroes and villains based on the DC Comics characters and concepts created by Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Chuck Dixon.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.”
Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
