We learned last month that Margot Robbie will be re-teaming with her Focus and Whiskey Tango Foxtrot directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa for a Joker and Harley Quinn movie, in which Robbie and Jared Leto will reprise their Suicide Squad roles.
While speaking recently with Coming Soon, Robbie spoke about working with Ficarra and Requa again, and what she is looking forward to about the Joker and Harley Quinn movie:
“They’re great! It’s fun working with a directing duo, and I love them. I’ve obviously done two films with them so I think they’re just brilliant. I’m personally a sucker for a love story. In any iteration. I think people enjoy seeing two characters who, in Harley and Joker’s case, would die for one another. It’s kind of romantic in a messed up way.”
The film, for which Robbie will also serve as an executive producer, is said to be going into production some time after Suicide Squad 2, which will be written and directed by Warrior helmer Gavin O’Connor. Additionally, Robbie will also be reprising her role as Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn for Suicide Squad director David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens alongside Leto’s Joker.
While it’s still uncertain who will be returning for the sequel, the first Suicide Squad film starred Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Cara Delevingne as June Moone/Enchantress, Jared Leto as The Joker and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Gotham City Sirens will star Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker. Catwoman and Poison Ivy are also expected to appear.
No release dates have been set for the Joker and Harley Quinn movie, Suicide Squad 2 or Gotham City Sirens.
