Star Wars star Mark Hamill has spoken out on fans speculating that he will appear in one of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy projects.

Social media is a place where some of the most bizarre rumors and speculation regarding films and casting fester and grow. Earlier this year, for example, many fans speculated that Vincent D’Onofrio was going to return as Wilson Fisk for the upcoming Hawkeye series based solely on a bunch of cryptic posts he made, (he eventually cleared the air). Likewise, a recent Twitter exchange between James Gunn and Mark Hamill had many speculating that the Star Wars star was going to get a role in one of James Gunn’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy projects.

In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Mark Hamill addressed this. According to the actor, he had simply discovered that they were neighbors and decided to spend the afternoon together, but no discussions about any role in a Guardians of the Galaxy projects were had:

“I’m a huge fan of James Gunn, there’s no doubt about that. I’ve seen all of his stuff, from Slither through the Guardians movies, and I think he’s great. We touched base because one Sunday night, I discovered he said something on Twitter and I replied back to him, he was answering a question, he said, ‘I suppose I could ask Mark, I hear he’s a neighbor of mine,’ which was news to me. So we went back and forth and it was great fun and I said, ‘I’d love to meet you, not only as a good neighbor, but also as an out-of-work actor.’ I was hardly subtle about it.

He came over with his girlfriend and spent the afternoon, we had a great time, but we never talked about me working for him or anything like that. He was just a friend. I’d never put him on the spot like that, so we’ll see what happens. But he doesn’t need me, his movies are really well cast and I just really enjoy watching them.”

In addition to Chris Pratt and Will Poulter, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is also expected to star Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Sean Gunn. The film’s core cast members were last seen in Avengers: Endgame.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set to hit theaters on May 5, 2023. Say tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming James Gunn film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
