Netflix’s upcoming Reborn film based on Mark Millar’s comic of the same name has found its scribe in rising writer Bek Smith.
Back in 2017, Netflix purchased Millarworld and has set about developing adaptations of the company’s various properties. Formed back 2004, Millarworld served as the imprint under which many of Mark Millar’s own creator-owned properties were published. This most notably included Wanted, Kick-Ass, its sequels Kick-Ass 2 and Kick-Ass 3, and Secret Service which was later retitled Kingsman: Secret Service following the film adaptation of the same name.
Since the purchase, Netflix has put a number of adaptations of Mark Millar’s works into development. This has included American Jesus, Supercrooks, Jupiter’s Legacy, Huck, and Reborn. The comic focuses on a woman who dies at the age of 80, only to find herself in a fantasy land full of monsters where good and evil wage an endless battle against one another and sets out on a quest to find her husband who died before her.
The upcoming Netflix film adaptation of Reborn has already signed The Lego Batman Movie director Chris McKay to helm the project with Sandra Bullock serving as a producer. In addition, Mark Millar and Reborn artist Greg Capullo are both serving as executive producers. But now the upcoming adaptation has added a new writer to its roster.
Bek Smith, sometimes credited as Rebekah F. Smith has been in the film industry since 2007 serving in various roles in different projects. The scribe served as a writer for the CBS television show Zoo. This will be the first time the writer will be penning a feature film.
