Mark Ruffalo Shares His Potential Solo ‘Hulk’ Film Idea

Mark Ruffalo flexed his creative chops recently by sharing his idea for a potential solo Hulk film.

One of the greatest additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been Mark Ruffalo’s version of the Hulk but it took some time to get the casting for the giant green monster perfect. Though his film has been ultimately sidelined and is met with much denial by fans, the MCU’s first Hulk was Edward Norton. Appearing only in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, the film wasn’t a huge critical or commercial success, especially when compared to that year’s Iron Man. The Hulk’s standing in the views of fans and critics changed for the better when Ruffalo took on the role in 2012’s The Avengers.

And while Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk has become beloved by fans and has appeared in numerous MCU films, the character has always been relegated as a side character, as seen explicitly in Thor: Ragnarok. There’s no telling when Ruffalo will return to the character, but the Oscar-nominated actor revealed to Variety that he has an idea for a solo Hulk film that’s as hilarious as it is endearing.

“There’s an idea that I think could be really interesting, We’ve never really followed him into his life. He’s always kind of off on the side. He’s like the Rosencrantz and Guildenstern of the Avengers. It’d be interesting to fill in all the blanks about what happened to him in between all these movies.”

One of the biggest (and frankly, one of the only) criticisms that Avengers: Endgame received was that the anxious Bruce Banner who couldn’t even transform into the Hulk in Infinity War somehow magically became Professor Hulk off screen. As audiences, we’ve been robbed of seeing Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk evolve on screen, as he randomly gains and loses abilities without us seeing the effort his character is able to exercise. Seeing all the gaps filled in would certainly make for a fantastic Hulk movie or series as it would add more weight to the character as well as give Ruffalo an opportunity to be the anchoring point for a project. Marvel is at the point where anything they create is a surefire hit, and a project like this would really spice things up.
