A brand new look at Justice League Mortal’s Martian Manhunter has made its way online.
Ask any comic book fan if they could see one canceled movie and they’ll say Justice League Mortal by George Miller. Before we got Zack Snyder’s Justice League film, Mad Max director George Miller was going to bring us his own unique taste on the DC Comics team. In fact, George Miller’s Justice League Mortal would have featured Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter, two heroes who didn’t appear in the theatrical version of Zack Snyder’s film.
Unfortunately, due to a bevy of issues including the WGA strike and the unprecedented success of The Dark Knight, Warner Bros. decided to focus on solo films, leading George Miller’s film to be shelved. However, the Justice League film wasn’t just an idea on paper. The superhero project had a full cast and sets ready to be filmed on.
Now, almost a decade later from its cancelation, we’re getting a solid look at some of the characters from the shelved film, including Martian Manhunter. In the gallery from filmmaker Ryan Unicomb, you’ll see all the members of America’s favorite team. Be sure to swipe right to get the look of Martian Manhunter.
In the photo, Martian Manhunter is seen kneeling next to Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. Mad Max actor and George Miller regular Hugh Keays-Bryne was cast in the coveted, intergalactic role. If Justice League Mortal had been released at the time, it would have been the official cinematic debut of Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Aquaman. Unfortunately, the most we’ll be seeing out of the shelved film is these photos that were likely taken from a screening or costume test.
In addition to Armie Hammer as Batman and Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, Justice League: Mortal would have also starred D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Common as Green Lantern, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman, Adam Brody as The Flash, Hugh Keays-Byrne as Martian Manhunter, Jay Baruchel as Maxwell Lord and Teresa Palmer as Talia Al Ghul. Late Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin was also on board as Wally West.
