Martin Scorsese worries that young people may think Marvel films are cinema because that is what they are exposed to in theaters.
Martin Scorsese continues to add fuel to the fire regarding his thoughts on Marvel movies. This all started when Martin Scorsese previously said that Marvel movies are not cinema. Recently, Martin Scorsese has likened Marvel films to theme parks.
Martin Scorsese is currently promoting The Irishman, which is set to hit Netflix later this year. Martin Scorsese appears to be worried that Marvel films are taking over movie theaters, which he believes prevents young people from seeing other films too. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin Scorsese voiced his opinion further at Rome Film Fest:
“The key that I’m hoping for is for theaters to continue to support narrative cinema of this kind. But right now the theaters seem to be mainly supporting the theme park, amusement park, comic book films. They’re taking over the theaters. I think they can have those films; it’s fine. It’s just that that shouldn’t become what our young people believe is cinema. It just shouldn’t.”
