‘Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ To Crossover With ‘Agent Carter’ In Final Season

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Agent Carter

The final season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will feature a crossover with a fan favorite character from Agent Carter.

With Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD travelling back in time during its final season, the writers found the perfect excuse to feature a crossover with the short-lived Agent Carter series, which was unceremoniously cancelled after its second season. Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Enver Gjokaj will return to his Agent Carter role as Daniel Sousa as a guest star in the seventh season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Gjokaj explained that he didn’t think he’d get a chance to play the character again following Agent Carter.

It wasn’t anywhere near my brain. I would’ve been thrilled at any moment for it to come back, but I think as an actor you don’t have time. You just have to move on to the next project. What’s unexpectedly, for me, really fun is that we realized once we got Coulson and [Sousa] in the same scene that they’re very similar.

Whether or not Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter will return to the series remains to be seen, but the showrunners could be keeping that up their sleeves as a surprise cameo. It would obviously make sense for an Agent Carter crossover to feature the title character afterall. Co-showrunner Jed Whedon explained that Sousa is the perfect character to guest-star on Agents of SHIELD as Phil Coulson is a fanboy for SHIELD’s history, so it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts to walking among the people he’s only ever read about.

“One of the things we think is so fun — especially with Coulson, who’s just a fanboy for S.H.I.E.L.D. history — is them just getting to walk right into [that history]. With Sousa, we had a good opportunity to hit that note with Agent Coulson.”

Here is a synopsis for the final season of Agents of SHIELD:

Picking up where we left off with Season 6 — and the reveal of a new Phil Coulson Life Model Decoy — Coulson and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are thrust backward in time and stranded in 1931 New York City. With the all-new Zephyr set to time-jump at any moment, the team must hurry to find out exactly what happened. If they fail, it would mean disaster for the past, present, and future of the world.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD stars Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leopold Fitz, Henry Simmons as Director Alphonso “Mack” MacKenzie, Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez, and Jeff Ward as Deke Shaw. The series was co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serve as executive producers along with Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb. The series is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television for ABC.

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD season seven premieres in 2020 on ABC.
