ABC announced the renewal of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a seventh season today but the announcement itself has many fans worried the series’ lead character won’t be back for it.
Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward were all confirmed to return for a seventh season, however, Clark Gregg who plays Agent Coulson in the series was left out of the list resulting in many worried fans online. Coulson himself was seemingly killed off in the fifth season’s finale.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serves as executive producer alongside Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb. The series is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television for ABC.
Although Coulson’s return is uncertain, Gregg will be returning as a director for the upcoming sixth season which is set to debut the summer of 2019. The actor will also return for another outing as Coulson in next year’s Captain Marvel.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
Based on the Marvel comic character first appearing in 1968, the story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.
