Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige Teases Shang-Chi During ‘Avengers’ Press Tour

Shang-Chi Marvel Studios Avengers Endgame

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige may have hinted at a Shang-Chi film during a press event in China for Avengers: Endgame.

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame is set to conclude a decade’s worth of MCU stories and while company president Kevin Feige has yet to officially announce plans for the future of the cinematic universe, the line-up will reportedly include a film based on the superhero named Shang-Chi. Fans hoping to see Marvel Studios produce a Shang-Chi film, which would be its first film with an Asian lead, were given a reason to be optimistic after Kevin Feige offered the following response when asked if there would ever be a Chinese superhero in the MCU:

“This is not an Endgame question, this is a question about the future. I’m not supposed to answer questions about the future but in this case, I will because the answer is yes.”

Introduced in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973, Shang-Chi is a skilled martial artist who was raised in an isolated compound located in China and trained by his father Fu Manchu, a Chinese crimelord and immortal sorcerer who repeatedly attempted to conquer the world. When Shang-Chi was finally allowed to venture into the outside world to do his father’s bidding, he learned about his father’s evil ways and faked his own death before embarking on a mission to take down Fu Manchu’s criminal empire.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a script written by Dave Callaham, Shang-Chi will reportedly modernize the source material in order to avoid the character stereotypes of the time.
