PS4 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man has outgrossed the entire game franchise by a significant margin in just one month of release.
Marvels’ Spider-Man has been winning over fans since it hit shelves on September 7th. Its attention to story, character, and exciting web-slinging has won over the hearts of Spidey fans who have been waiting for an experience akin to the original Spider-Man 2 game released over 10 years ago.
According to Variety, NPD Group analysis shows that Marvel’s Spider-Man launched to numbers 37% higher than the total combined launch sales of all Spider-Man games released after 1995 over the same period of time. This is quite impressive considering that the video game franchise has released over 20 installments since 1995. These titles include games based on all of the movies aside from Homecoming, as well as other fan-favorites such as Friend or Foe, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Shattered Dimensions.
Until now, Spider-Man 2 was seen as the series high for the Marvel icon’s video game adventures. The game, based on the Toby Maguire film of the same name, was a major point of nostalgia for many fans who played it at the time, yet even some of the most hardcore fans have said that the new game is the best in the franchise. It’ll be interesting to see how the colossal video game will continue to smash records.
