Marvel Studios Artist Gives ‘Avengers’ Villain Ultron A Mask Amid Coronavirus Outbreak

A former Marvel Studios artist has shared a cheeky piece of concept art where Avengers villain Ultron is wearing a surgical mask amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Back in 2015, Ultron was all the rage when he appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The character was received well but many found that the Avengers villain didn’t leave enough repercussions behind. Still, Tony Stark’s creation proved to be a worthy foe for the Avengers, even though he perished at the end of the film. Since the film’s release, Ultron has faded into obscurity, becoming just another villain that Marvel Studios has produced. However, amid the coronavirus outbreak, artist Charlie Wen has breathed brand new life into the Avengers villain.

As the coronavirus outbreak began to spread, thousands flocked to their local grocery and department stores to stock up on surgical masks, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper. Taking inspiration from society’s crazed antics, Charlie Wen, who co-founded Marvel Studios’ visual development department, decided to paint Ultron as the culprit behind the lack of supplies.

One of the funniest things about about this artwork is that Ultron has stocked up on Kirkland toilet paper, exclusively found at Costco, where tons of fights broke out over the past week from customers in search of supplies. The caption from the Marvel Studios artist reminds us to help one another out and not be greedy like the Avengers villain was in hoarding supplies amid the coronavirus outbreak.
