Here’s what happens during the post credits scenes for Marvel Studios’ Eternals.
The folks at Marvel Studios have proven time and time again that they know exactly how to tease the future of their film franchise. Each film sets up the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Eternals is no different. While I didn’t enjoy Eternals, there are two things that blew the entire theater away: the film’s post-credits scenes.
SPOILER WARNING FOR ETERNALS GOING FORWARD.
In the mid-credits scene, Angelina Jolie, Lauren Ridloff and Barry Keoghan are flying through deep space in search of the other Eternals when they realize that their earth counterparts aren’t responding to their communications. They then feel a presence before an obscure Marvel character named Pip teleports on to their ship with a glass of ale. He introduces the Eternal Eros, a.k.a. Starfox, killer of Black Roger… oh, and brother of the Mad Titan Thanos. Played by One Direction member and Dunkirk star Harry Styles, Eros tells the rest of the Eternals that he knows where their friends are and that they’re in big trouble. So, I guess we can expect to see the actor in a more prominent role in the future.
The actual post-credits scene features Kit Harington as Dane Whitman as he begins to open up a crate that features his family’s crest. Whitman initially backs out of opening the crate until an ominous voices appears and prompts him to do so only to reveal the Ebony Blade. The Ebony Blade was created by Merlin the Wizard and Sir Percival of Scandia from the starstone meteorite and is Black Knight’s weapon of choice in the pages of Marvel comics. But, before Whitman could touch the Ebony Blade another voice appears and asks “Sure you’re ready for that, Mr. Whitman?” That voice turned out to be Marvel Studios’ introduction of Mahershala Ali as Blade. If this post-credits scene means anything, then Harington’s Dane Whitman is likely to become the MCU’s Black Knight sooner rather than later and will have a major relationship with Blade.
Here is the synopsis for Chloe Zhao’s Eternals:
“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”
Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
Eternals will hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
