Marvel Studios Mourns Loss Of Captain Marvel Consultant

Sadly, one of the air force consultants from the upcoming Captain Marvel has tragically passed away. The studio has taken to Twitter to pay their respects.

Captain Marvel is set to be released next year and features a main character in the air force, which means that they obviously need consultants on set for various different reasons. They are a very important componenent in the authentic portrayal of their profession on screen. Yesterday, Marvel Studios took to twitter to mourn the sudden loss of one of the film’s consultants, Air Force Maj. Stephen Del Bagno.

According to CBS News, Del Bagno, 34, was killed in a crash during a “routine training exercise” at Nellis Airforce Base. Del Bagno was part of the Thunderbirds, a highly respected and revered Air Force squadron. This is apparently the first death of a Thunderbird pilot in 35 years. Del Bagno worked as a consultant on Captain Marvel, so the studio took to their twitter to mourn the loss of their team member:

Our hearts go out to the friends and family of Del Bagno and wish them the strength they need to get through this hard time. Making a movie is a collaborative process and although Del Bagno may not appear on screen, his work on the film will be absolutely felt on screen. Consultants on films such as Captain Marvel bring that authenticity to films that may not have captured that otherwise.

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.  Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Directed by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Jude Law as Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, and Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer. Ben Mendelsohn, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte and McKenna Grace are also on board in undisclosed roles.

Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.
