Marvel’s ‘Cloak And Dagger’ Picked Up To Series On Freeform

If you are a Marvel fan and a fan of Marvel Television, you will then enjoy this piece of news, especially if you are a fan of a certain heroic duo from that universe. Variety broke the news today that Freeform (formerly known as ABC Family) has ordered Cloak And Dagger straight to series. There was no mention of how many episodes the series will be getting for the first season. The project is being pitched as a superhero love story and they also provided with the following description about the TV take on the characters.

This exciting new series is an adaptation of the beloved Marvel characters aimed squarely at young adults. This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart—but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.

Variety goes on to say that a writer hasn’t been attached to Cloak And Dagger yet, but that the search is full underway and that the show will be co-produced by ABC Signature Studios and Marvel Studios. For those who may not know: Cloak And Dagger was actually being developed as a potential show back in 2011 for ABC Family (now known as Freeform) when Marvel TV was first starting up, but somewhere along the line, the project was put on hold.

That line-up also consisted of Mockingbird for ABC Family, Hulk and A.K.A. Jessica Jones for ABC. While Guillermo Del Toro’s Hulk got shelved, A.K.A. Jessica Jones from Melissa Rosenberg did end up happening years later as Marvel’s Jessica Jones on Netflix after she had been taking it around to several cable networks when ABC decided to pass on it due to the dark tone it came with. In addition, Mockingbird getting her own TV show is now coming to fruition in the form Marvel’s Most Wanted.

UPDATE: Marvel’s Head Of Television Jeph Loeb, who will serve as an executive producer, has commented on the series stating the following.

We are thrilled to be able to explore another corner of the Marvel Universe with Cloak and Dagger. We want to thank Tandy and Tyrone’s fans everywhere who have been waiting for this exciting news.
