Matthew Lillard has joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 as Marvel Studios prepares to begin production on the next chapter of the Disney+ series, according to Deadline. Character details are being kept under wraps, and Marvel has not commented on what role Lillard will play in the show.
Lillard’s Marvel casting just ahead of Daredevil: Born Again‘s Disney+ debut, with the series set to premiere its first two episodes on March 4. The show marks the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with heightened abilities who continues his fight for justice in New York City. Meanwhile, Vincent D’Onofrio reprises his role as Wilson Fisk, the former crime boss now pursuing political ambitions.
What we know about Daredevil: Born Again
Born Again serves as a continuation of the Netflix Daredevil series that ran from 2015 to 2018, though it underwent significant creative changes following a production pause in 2023 due to the Hollywood strikes. Following Marvel’s decision to revamp the series, Born Again was restructured to better align with the tone and continuity of the original Daredevil show.
In addition to Cox and D’Onofrio, Born Again features the return of several familiar faces, including Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher. Other cast members for Season 1 include Margarita Levieva, Ayelet Zurer, Wilson Bethel, and Tony Dalton.
Dario Scardapane, who previously worked on Marvel’s The Punisher, serves as showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again and will return for Season 2. The series is executive produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Sana Amanat, Dario Scardapane, and directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.
Best known for his roles in horror franchises like Scream and family-friendly properties including the live-action Scooby-Doo films, Lillard brings significant genre experience to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He will next be seen in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Scream 7.
