Mia Goth has officially joined the cast of Marvel’s Blade movie, as reported by Deadline. The identity of her Blade character is being kept under wraps. Starring opposite Goth is Mahershala Ali, who takes on the iconic role of Eric Brooks, better known to comic book fans as Blade.

A beloved Marvel character, Blade was created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan in 1973. The half-human, half-vampire superhero first appeared in The Tomb of Dracula #10 in July of that year. The character quickly gained popularity and was given his own comic book series. Blade was also the subject of a successful movie franchise in the late ’90s and early 2000s, starring Wesley Snipes as Brooks.

Mia Goth is an English actress who rose to fame with her breakout role in Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac. She gained further recognition for her performance in the TV series The Tunnel. In 2022, Goth starred in the indie slasher film X and and its follow-up Pearl, earning critical acclaim.

The talent behind Marvel’s Blade movie

Yann Demange, known for directing White Boy Rick and ’71, is at the helm of Marvel’s Blade movie, with a script penned by Michael Starrbury, who co-wrote Netflix’s When They See Us. Bassam Tariq was initially set to direct, but had to step down due to scheduling conflicts.

The original cast of Blade included Delroy Lindo, Aaron Pierre and Milan Ray, but it’s uncertain if they’re still attached to the project since it was supposed to begin production in November 2022 before undergoing a creative overhaul. For now, Blade is expected to begin shooting in a few weeks.

Blade is being produced by Marvel Studios veterans Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Eric Hauserman Carroll, with Bassam Tariq receiving an executive producer credit despite leaving the director’s chair. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on September 6, 2024
