Michael Bay Forced Casey Jones Into ‘TMNT’ Sequel

Beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character, Casey Jones was almost not included in the upcoming sequel to the Turtles reboot. Apparently, they didn’t want to overcrowd the film by adding Casey Jones. But, Michael Bay wanted him in the film and told the writers to “figure it out”.

During an interview with Screen Rant, producer Brad Fuller talked about how Casey Jones ended up in the sequel:

There was a point in this story when we didn’t have Casey Jones in it because we just felt like we just couldn’t fit in another character. That became a big battle towards the end of prep. It was really Bay who called me [and] said, “Guys, Casey Jones is in this movie. You figure out how to make that story work.” And we had to go back to work on the story in order to fit him in.

Casey Jones is currently being portrayed by Arrow star, Stephen Amell. From what we’ve seen in the trailers Bay made the right choice of adding Amell/ Jones in the film. He brings a great deal of charisma in the trailers. Speaking more on Bay’s demand to include Jones, Fuller goes on to say:

He’s got a golden gut. Bay’s got a golden gut and he would just call me and tell me, “My gut is telling me that you guys need to figure out Casey Jones in this movie.” He doesn’t go into the reason that he feels that way… And, by the way, he was absolutely right. And we got the perfect guy to play the role. I mean Amell is fantastic at it. Now when I see the movie, I’m ashamed that there was ever any notion that Casey Jones wasn’t going to be in the movie. Do you know what I’m saying? He’s such an integral part of the movie. You’ll see. I mean he’s there the whole way through. And he’s great at it. And Amell did so many of the stunts and the things that we needed him to do. It heightens everything.”

What do you guys think of Casey Jones’ inclusion? Do you think Bay made a good call? Sound off in the comments section.

Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael return to theaters this summer to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After supervillain Shredder (Brian Tee) escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows is directed by Dave Green and will star Megan Fox as April O’neil, Stephen Amell as Casey Jones, Will Arnett as Vern Fenwick, Tyler Perry as Baxter Stockman, Gary Anthony William as Bebop, WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly as Rocksteady and Brian Tee as The Shredder. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows hits theaters this week on June 3rd, 2016!
