Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first official image of The Walking Dead star Michael Cudlitz as Lex Luthor for the third season of The CW’s DC Comics drama Superman and Lois. The image showcases Cudlitz as a bald-headed, menacing Lex Luthor, with a cunning expression on his face. The character is also rocking facial hair, something not seen in most Lex Luthor adaptations.
Michael Cudlitz’s work on The Walking Dead was highly-acclaimed and his portrayal of Sergeant Abraham Ford was a standout performance on the hit AMC series. Cudlitz brought a depth and complexity to his character, who was a former soldier struggling to find his place in a world overrun by zombies.
According to an official character description from The CW, Michael Cudlitz’s Lex Luthor is “known to the world as the visionary billionaire behind LexCorp, but secretly, the criminal underworld knows who Lex truly is: a brutal psychopath who terrorizes anyone he crosses paths with. When Lex debuts this season, it’s been years since he dropped out of the public eye and he’s re-emerging hellbent on correcting a personal injustice by enacting revenge on the two people he feels have wronged him — Superman and Lois Lane.”
The full cast of Superman and Lois also includes Alex Garfin, Michael Bishop, Erik Valdez, Wolé Parks, Adam Rayner, Dylan Walsh, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Tayler Buck and Sofia Hasmik. The DC Comics series was developed by Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing, with David Madden, Geoff Johns, Kristi Korzec, Sarah Schechter and Lee Toland Krieger serving as executive producers.
The storyline of season three
According to an official synopsis, Superman and Lois season three “opens weeks after Superman’s blowout defeat of Ally Allston. Clark and Lois are now working at the Smallville Gazette together and enjoying small town life. But the Kents’ romantic bliss only shines a light on how isolating “the secret” can be, as Chrissy struggles to balance a new love interest and her friendship with Lois. However, Lois’ own work-life balance is put to the test when an undercover assignment reveals a deadly foe that promises to change the Kent family forever. Superman would move heaven and earth for his family, but with a villain this merciless, even that might not be enough.”
“Meanwhile, the Kent boys find themselves being pulled in opposite directions as Jordan discovers what a superhero-identity really means and Jonathan searches for purpose beyond the football field,” the synopsis continues. “Amid all this upheaval, John Henry is haunted by his doppelgänger’s past, leading to dangerous consequences for him and Natalie . Lana Lang and Kyle redefine their family post-separation, while Sarah explores what the future holds for her and Jordan now that she knows the truth about his powers. Having learned the hard way that no one else can be trusted to work with Superman, General Samuel Lane reclaims his post at the Department of Defense, only to face his own conflict in working with his grandson, Jordan.”
