Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino is set to score Matt Reeves’ upcoming DC Comics film, The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.

This news comes courtesy of a Reddit user who attended a showcase at the Royal Albert Hall in London where composers Michael Giacchino and David Arnold appeared to play compositions in “competition” with one another to see who was the superior composer. According to the user, numerous guests appeared during the showcase including The Batman writer/director Matt Reeves who got on one knee and “proposed” to Michael Giacchino, asking him if he will compose the score for The Batman.

Michael Giacchino said yes.

This won’t be the first time Michael Giacchino and Matt Reeves have collaborated. In fact, Michael Giacchino has been the composer for all of Matt Reeves’ films since Cloverfield  including Let Me In, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Michael Giacchino is one of the most prolific film composers in the industry. His expansive list of credits include The Incredibles, Star Trek (2009), Up (for which he won his Academy Award), Super 8, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Incredibles 2, Spider-Man: Far From Home and the upcoming Taika Waititi film Jojo Rabbit.

Michael Giacchino joins the likes of Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard and Junkie XL as the newest composer set to score for a Batman movie.

Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and features a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Paul Dano as the Riddler. Westworld star Jeffrey Wright was recently reported to be in talks for the role of Commissioner James Gordon.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
