The Batman director Matt Reeves took to social media to debut Michael Giacchino’s Catwoman theme.
Matt Reeves has assembled an all-star cast and crew to bring The Dark Knight to life again. A lot has been said about the star power of the cast, but the behind-the-scenes roster that has been brought together is one for the history books. The film will notably be composed by Michael Giacchino, who has frequently collaborated with Reeves throughout the years.
It was no surprise when Michael Giacchino was brought on to score The Batman, which will be the first solo film the character has received since 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises. The last few weeks have seen Giacchino and Reeves debut the themes for both Batman and the Riddler. Now, the duo has released the final single for the upcoming film. The final theme centers on Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, who is set to be a key part of the DC reboot.
Promotional footage has teased her as more friend than foe, which can be felt in the theme. While the themes for Batman and Riddler featured a level of intensity, Catwoman’s theme is far more relaxed, though it does exude the melancholy heard in the previous themes. The Catwoman music is also directly influenced by the jazz-fusion themes that dominated the noir films of the 40s and 50s. Seeing as Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman is the femme fatale to Robert Pattinson’s Batman, it’s fitting that her them exudes loneliness, a touch of confidence, and a ton of mystery.
Here is the synopsis for The Batman:
Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.
When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
