Two new images have surfaced online, supposedly showing Michael Keaton in Batman’s new costume for The Flash and Batgirl.
Due for release next year, The Flash will see Michael Keaton return to the role of Batman for the first time since 1992’s Batman Returns. Drawing inspiration from the Flashpoint storyline in DC comics, The Flash will feature its hero, played by Ezra Miller, entering alternate universes, including that of Tim Burton’s Batman films.
As well as suiting up as Batman in The Flash, Keaton is also due to appear in the role in the upcoming Batgirl movie on HBO Max, which releases December 2022. The film supposedly takes place in the same DCEU continuity as films such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, with J.K. Simmons returning as Commissioner Gordon. How Keaton’s Batman will figure into the film is not yet clear, though originally The Flash was scheduled for release before Batgirl, so it may be that The Flash will explain the return of Keaton’s Batman.
The new images that supposedly show Michael Keaton’s new Batsuit were shared on Twitter by @Moth_Culture. The suit in the pictures appears similar to the one seen in Batman Returns, but with additional detailing that is somewhat reminiscent of Christian Bale’s Batsuit in The Dark Knight. Check out the images below:
The black utility belt is also a new addition, not seen in the Burton Batman films. Overall, this suit keeps the design elements that anchor it in Burton’s universe, but with a fresh modern spin that shows Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne has continued to evolve and develop the equipment at his disposal.
Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.
In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.
The Flash opens on June 23, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding Michael Keaton’s Batman and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
