Michael Shannon was "a little confused" with the Multiverse...

Fans of the DC Universe were thrilled when news broke that Michael Shannon would be returning as General Zod in Ezra Miller’s The Flash movie. But some were left wondering how Zod could come back to life after being killed off in 2013’s Man of Steel. In a recent interview with Looper, Shannon shed some light on the situation.

“I was a little confused. I said, ‘As memory serves me, I think I died in Man of Steel. Are they sure they got the right guy?'” Shannon told Looper. “But then they explained to me the whole multiverse phenomenon, which…I was a little behind the times on that.”

The General Zod actor went on to add the following: “I can’t say that I’m a huge consumer of this genre of films – not that I have anything against them,” Shannon continued. “If I’m going to watch a movie, the odds are it’s not going to be one of those, but I sure love making them.”

Despite not being a big fan of the superhero genre, Michael Shannon expressed his love for working on Man of Steel and his appreciation for director Zack Snyder. He also spoke highly of The Flash helmer Andy Muschiett

“I loved making Man of Steel and I love working with Zack, and I felt like it was actually, in a way, a fairly important film. It was nice to revisit the character,” Shannon continued. “I wasn’t there for a terribly long time. I was in and out in a couple of weeks… Andy’s a lovely guy and a great artist, visually, and I had a blast.”

The Flash is a highly-anticipated superhero movie based on the DC Comics character of the same name, starring Ezra Miller as the titular character. The movie marks Miller’s fifth outing as The Flash on the big screen, following the actor’s appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeSuicide SquadJustice League and the Peacemaker series on HBO Max.

Warner Bros. Discovery already has a script for a potential sequel to The Flash, written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, the man behind the two Aquaman movies starring Jason Momoa. However, James Gunn and Peter Safran did not discuss the Flash sequel during their DC Universe presentation.

Who else is attached to the Flash movie?

Directed by Andy Muschietti from a script written by Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson, The Flash is inspired by the Flashpoint comic book storyline, which followed Barry Allen as he navigated an altered DC Universe. Written by Geoff Johns and penciled by Andy Kuber, Flashpoint radically altered the status of the DC Comics universe and led to the launch of the New 52 titles.

In addition to Ezra Miller, The Flash also features Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two separate versions of Batman, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdú as Nora Allen, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora-Ul and Sasha Calle as Supergirl. Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso and Luke Brandon Field are also on board in undisclosed roles.

The Flash hits theaters on June 16, 2023. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
