Millar & Capullo Team-Up For Creator-Owned Comic ‘Reborn’

Mark Millar and Greg Capullo announced plans for Reborn a creator-owned six issue limited series to launch this October. Reborn will be published by MillarWorld, Millar’s personal publishing imprint, with the ultimate intention of adaptation for film per a direct quote from Millar himself,

“The idea is always to create the project and then find the right producer for it. We have an idea of who would be good for this one. It must be someone who will understand the story and is passionate about bringing our vision to the screen.”

Millar is no stranger to creator-owned properties and subsequent film adaptations based on his works, which include: Captain America: Civil War, Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2, Wanted, Kick-Ass 1 & 2, Kingsman: The Secret Service, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle. On the other hand, Capullo is more well known for his art on Batman and Quasar than on his one creator-owned property, the overlooked horror comic The Creech via Image.

Reborn will focus on the 80-year-old protagonist Bonnie Black who is born again in a fantastical world after her death, the official synopsis follows:

“It’s not Heaven. It’s not Hell. It’s as real and hard as where we live now, but filled with the most amazing fantasy landscapes, jaw-dropping creatures and a battle raging between good and evil. The people she loved in this world — her father and her childhood dog — but oddly, not her husband who had passed over 14 years before. So she sets out to find him. She realizes that she has been reborn as a 25 year-old woman with a sword in her hand and gun on her hip.”

It’s a promising premise for a female centered fantasy property and it hints at a meta deconstruction of the character’s life and values similar to Richard Matheson’s What Dreams May Come. Add one of the hottest artists working in comics today, fresh off a historic run on Batman, and this is shaping up to be a property to watch.

What do you think? Will you be waiting for the birth of Reborn come October?
