Will Spider-Man pop up?

A brand new Morbius featurette features references to a medley of Spider-Man villains.

After a series of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony Picture’s Spider-Man spin-off Morbius is set to hit cinemas this upcoming January. Starring Jared Leto as a vampire, the film’s relationship with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe is uncertain, as the first trailer directly teased Spider-Man and featured Michael Keaton, who famously played the Vulture in Homecoming. Hopefully, we receive more answers, as a brand new trailer is set to debut tomorrow.

With a new trailer on the way, a brand new featurette has been released that asks the question “Who is Morbius?” Jared Leto answers the question, breaking down how unique and deadly the character of Morbius is, while also teasing “a web of opportunities”.

The featurette is filled with new footage, including a brief moment where Jared Leto’s Dr. vampire is seeing looking at a copy of The Daily Bugle. While the front-page story focuses on Morbius being arrested for “vampire murders”, two smaller stories have our curiosity.

The first headline says that Rhino is on the loose, though it’s unclear if a literal Rhino is on the loose as the follow-up mentions a zoo. Another in-your-face headline asks if Black Cat is a friend or foe. With Spider-Man teased in the film’s first trailer, it’s not surprising that some of Spidey’s notorious villains could be popping up in Morbius.

Here is the official synopsis for Morbius:

One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.

Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.

Morbius is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on January 28th, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Morbius and its connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
