Mortal Kombat HBO Max Godzilla vs. Kong

Mortal Kombat posted some impressive numbers on HBO Max in its opening weekend and dethroned Godzilla vs. Kong as the streamer’s biggest debut to date.

Godzilla vs. Kong was the first big movie from Warner Bros. to hit both HBO Max and theaters this year under the controversial release model. The MonsterVerse crossover saw some of the best box office returns during the pandemic and brought plenty of eyes to the streaming service as well. Mortal Kombat became the next big release on HBO Max over the weekend, and it put up bigger numbers than Godzilla vs. Kong.

According to Samba TV, Mortal Kombat earned 3.8 million views in U.S. households on HBO Max, which trumps Godzilla vs. Kong‘s 3.6 million. These numbers make Mortal Kombat the biggest debut for HBO Max to date. In theaters, Mortal Kombat has $50 million in its total gross so far.
