Production on Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok is in full swing in Brisbane, Australia and fans are salivating at the opportunity to get a glimpse of the actors in costume. While the actors have in fact been spotted out and about, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston seem to have be sticking to civilian clothing for the first stretch of shooting (roughly two out of four scheduled days). Now it seems that their orders have changed as Tom Hiddleston, despite undoubtedly the best efforts of Marvel security) was photographed making his way to set. And what was peaking out from underneath a hoodie? None other than green Asgardian garb.
In addition to the brief but exciting look at Loki’s costume, another character was spotted as well and it’s not the God of Thunder. A mystery actress (you can see her here) has been seen alongside the crew. The Courier Mail initially reported the actress to simply be Cate Blanchett in full garb, but that clearly isn’t the case. It doesn’t look to be Jamie Alexander either, as claimed by The Daily Mail, and it’s already been reported that Natalie Portman won’t be making an appearance. So who is this woman?
Another photo captured revealed a crew member carrying costumes labeled ‘Hi Dad’ and ‘Hi Mum’. With Anthony Hopkins spotted just days ago, it wouldn’t be un reasonable to assume the ‘Hi Dad’ is referring to him. As for the ‘Hi Mum’, it certainly wouldn’t be referring to Rene Russo’s Frigga who met her fate at the hands of Malekith the Accursed in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, but another character doesn’t seem to far outside the realm of possibility, Gaea. In the comics, Gaea is one of the Elder Gods who arrived prior to life on Earth and infused her very essence into the planet itself but more importantly, she’s Thor’s biological mother. While it’s been long believed that Frigga is in fact Thor’s mother in the MCU, bringing in Gaea to reveal her true parentage could be a welcome direction for the Asgardian mythos. Though it may be a little weird that she’s meeting in a New York alley, as the scene in question is reportedly set there, it’s too early to make any wild assumptions.
Thor: Ragnarok arrives in theaters November 3, 2017. The film is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum, and Mark Ruffalo.
