Netflix App Gives ‘Marvel’s The Punisher’ A 2017 Release Date

When fans wanted a series about The Punisher, Marvel and Netflix wasted no time in delivering. Jon Bernthal joined Daredevil‘s second season as the brutal vigilante, and fans praised his performance. His portrayal was so well received that The Punisher series went from an idea, to an announcement, to what is now a release date in what feels like record time.

A post was made to Reddit yesterday that contained a screenshot from the Netflix app. The screenshot was of Netflix’s recently updated queue, which contained a new entry for Marvel’s The Punisher. The entry has 2017 listed as the release date, and contains a quick synopsis:

“After the murder of his family, Frank Castle is both haunted and hunted. In the criminal underworld, he’ll become known as The Punisher.”

This could just be a temporary place holder as nothing has been officially announced yet. Frank Castle was featured in Daredevil‘s second season. The show introduced him as a man bent on revenge for the murder of his family. If Marvel’s The Punisher is released in 2017, it will be be the third Marvel series on Netflix that year. Both Iron Fist and The Defenders already have a confirmed 2017 release date.
