The showrunner for Netflix’s The Witcher recently spoke about the controversy surrounding Ciri’s casting.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich discussed the casting of Ciri and how people responded to it. During the interview, Hissrich stated that she knew that there was no way they were going to please everyone:
“I think that anytime you’re doing casting and you’re casting something that has a lot of existing fans you’re going to get a lot of opinions about whether it matches fans’ vision. This franchise has millions of fans. We knew we weren’t going to make everyone happy.”
She then went on to stand by her decision and praised Freya Allan, the 17-year-old actress who portrays Ciri:
“When we found Freya we made her an offer that day. She’s incredibly special. She’s young, yet has the soul and maturity of somebody much older. […] When Freya is in a scene with Henry they really rival each other.”
From the look of things, Lauren S. Hissrich has confidence in her decision. What did you think of Ciri’s casting? Is the actress too young or too old to play Ciri in the Netflix series? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
