New ‘Logan’ Video Showcases The Origin of X-23

"Logan" Director James Mangold released a new short video entitled "" on twitter that shows different aspects of X-23's horrific origin story.

Logan Trailer 2 X-23 Laura
Logan is so close to release that it’s hard to contain the excitement I feel for it. Every trailer and new look at the film has been great so far. Earlier today, Director James Mangold released a new video over twitter that features Laura (X-23) and the experiments done to her to create a “new” Wolverine.

As you can see below in the video that Mangold titled “,” we first see the bloody equipment from the lab that Laura is in, before getting a look at a couple of the screens used to monitor her vitals, including “tissue regeneration” and “cell regeneration.” We then jump to actually seeing Laura during an operation of some sort where her claws are clearly visible. She is then taken into what looks like a solitary confinement padded room or something. The video ends with a close up of X-23 cutting her arm with her claws only for her to heal seconds after doing so. She then takes a quick glance at the camera before the footage cuts off.

In the comics, X-23 is a clone of Wolverine. She was created because no other subject could withstand the process of adamantium bonding to the skeleton as Wolverine did. After creation, scientists put her under great stress (think the experiment on Wade Wilson in Deadpool) to kickstart her mutant gene. Then, after her cell regeneration started working, scientists forcibly extracted her claws and coated them in adamantium. This origin story looks to be similar to the source material, but even if there is a significant change, the outcome will probably be the same.

I’m really not sure whether or not this footage will wind up in the film, but I doubt it. It almost feels more like found footage for the people that are really keeping up with the project, but it is probably inconsequential to the larger story that Mangold is telling with Logan. However, it is entirely possible that the film opens up with a montage of Laura’s creation and includes some of the scenes here.

Recently, Mangold also tweeted a poster for the IMAX version of the film. And in other news, Sophie Turner (Jean Grey) confirmed that the next X-Men film will start shooting sometime very soon (probably in May). For everything on Logan and any other of the upcoming X-Men movies, keep Heroic Hollywood bookmarked.

“In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X (Patrick Stewart) in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young Mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.”

Logan hits theaters on March 3rd.
