New ‘Ms. Marvel’ Image Shows Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan Suiting Up For AvengerCon

Meet the MCU fans in the MCU.

Ms. Marvel Disney Plus Kamala Khan

A new image from the upcoming Disney Plus Marvel series, Ms. Marvel, shows Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan going full fangirl in her Carol Danvers cosplay.

In a new image released by Empire magazine, Iman Vellani can be seen as Marvel’s newest and youngest hero, Kamala Khan A.K.A. Ms. Marvel. Like her comic book counterpart, Vellani’s Kamala is already dreaming of becoming an Avenger before she ever gets superpowers and can be seen cosplaying as Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). Kamala was a huge fan of Carol’s in the comics, leading to her taking on the Ms. Marvel moniker that Carol had originally used.

It’s not clear if the new image is from before or after Kamala Khan has the powers that will make her Ms. Marvel, but it appears to show a strained conversation between her and her best friend Bruno (Matt Lintz). Bruno also appears to be in cosplay, donning a lab coat and checked shirt that have the look of Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. More interestingly, Bruno is wearing a lanyard for New Jersey AvengerCon. While MCU heroes have always had their in-universe fanbases, often mirroring either comic book fans or fans of real-life celebrities, this Comic-Con style event could be one of the MCU’s first looks at the fan culture that has developed around the Avengers. Check out the image below:

Also visible, though out of focus, in the background of the image is a replica of Captain America’s shield. Clearly Ms. Marvel will be a series that explores not only what it’s like to be a superhero in the MCU, but what it’s like to be an Avengers fan in the MCU.

Here is the synopsis for Ms. Marvel:

Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?

Ms. Marvel stars Iman Vellani, Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Fawad Khan, and Mehwish Hayat.

Ms. Marvel hits Disney Plus on June 8. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan and the future of the MCU on the big screen and small screen, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
