Next ‘X-Men’ Film Will Take Place During ‘90s Says Producer

X-Men

With X-Men: Apocalypse a few weeks away, fans are already interested to see what’s going to happen next in Fox’s X-Men Universe.  With new of a New Mutants movie on the horizon, as well as Deadpool 2 also in the works, the sky’s the limit for Marvel’s mutants.  Writer/producer Simon Kinberg was asked about any upcoming X-Men films and he did confirm what time period would be covered.

“The next one is set in the ’90s,”

This is keeping up the tradition of each of the “First Class” X-Men films. X-Men: First Class took place during the 1960s. X-Men: Days of Future Past took place during the 1970s. The current film X-Men: Apocalypse is taking place during the 1980s. It’s almost a no-brainer that the next film would take place during the 1990s. There has been no confirmation as to what the possible storyline would be during this timeframe. However, it’s to be noted that there were some very interesting X-Men storylines that came out during the 90s that could be explored.  The possibility for the New Mutants film to also take place during the 90s exists as well, so we’ll just have to .wait and see.

Soon enough the “First Class” films will catch up time-wise with the originals. It’ll be interesting how the two different series eventually catch up with each other.

X-Men: Apocalypse releases nationwide May 27, 2016.

So what do you think? Sound off in the comments.

There’s a 10 years gap between movies, yet the actors only age about 2-3 years between each film. They are either going to need new actors, a lot of aging make-up or a bit of digital aging magic.

  • wilderfox

The fact is they never will truly catch up cuz it will be totally different series of events

Costumes were kinda crappy in the 90’s. They gonna give us a new low in that department?

This was my fave era of the X-Men. So many cool stories happened during that time. Especially with the various X-Teams (X-Force, X-Factor, X-Calibur, etc). IF characters like Cable and DP are gonna be involved, then the 90’s are definitely the era they should focus on.

I want a complete reboot and no Singer involvement.

  • Joseph

Why does this franchise insist on jumping 10 years ahead with each installment but refuse to make it look like the characters are actually aging? Why does Singer insist on overlooking such a HUGE detail as if Time were no big deal? Time doesn’t have to be a factor in any movie. But when you constantly make it a point to remind people what decade we’re in, then you SHOULD make it a point to follow the rules of time…which is, that PEOPLE PHYSICALLY AGE AFTER 20-30 YEARS!!! Bryan Singer is a joke.
