If you’re not aware of Nightwatch, he was a regular character in various Spider-Man titles in the 1990’s, and he even had his own self-titled series – albeit short lived. Comic fans are most likely to know him from the Maximum Carnage crossover.
Also known as Doctor Kevin Trench, he witnessed a costumed man die after battling terrorists that were armed with cloaking devices that granted them invisibility. When he unmasked the corpse, he saw an older version of himself. It turns out that he’s caught in a time loop, and he’s travelling in time to stop his inevitable fate.
According to Bleeding Cool, their sources are telling them that employees of Sony have been snapping up comic books that feature Nightwatch left, right, and center – even books he has a minor appearance in. They state that this is usual behaviour for studios when they plan to include a character in an upcoming movie. The employees need to know everything they can about the character to prepare for meetings, discussions, and strategies. Guess where Nightwatch could fit in to naturally?
Spider-Man: Homecoming. We know Bokeem Woodbine is set to play The Shocker, but what if this was just a misdirect for Nightwatch’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It’s purely speculation, but it could be an awesome bait and switch.
Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theatres on July 7th, 2017.
