Marvel’s Disney Plus series Nova has taken a significant step forward, with veteran television producer Ed Bernero joining as its showrunner. The series will follow Richard Rider, also known as Nova, one of Marvel’s most iconic cosmic heroes.
Bernero takes over from Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada, who was first attached to Nova when the project was in its early stages. At the time, Marvel had yet to decide whether the Nova project would be a feature film or a Disney Plus series. The project has since been confirmed as a Disney+ series by Marvel’s Kevin Feige.
Ed Bernero Brings Extensive TV Experience To Nova
Best known for his work as showrunner on Criminal Minds, Bernero has built a reputation for crafting compelling television dramas. His credits also include creating NBC’s Third Watch and leading Crossing Lines, a crime drama with an international scope. Now, he’s set to bring his expertise to Marvel’s cosmic side with Nova.
Nova focuses on Richard Rider, who gains his powers after becoming the last surviving member of the Nova Corps. With abilities including super strength and flight, Rider takes on the mantle of Nova to protect Earth and the galaxy from threats, making him a key figure in Marvel’s cosmic landscape.
The news of Bernero’s hiring was first reported by Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider and later confirmed by Deadline. Details regarding production schedules or casting remain under wraps as the project moves further into development.
