The new Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series has broken Disney Plus’ premiere record based on the number of hours viewed.
Last week the first two episodes of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiered on Disney Plus. This came after an incredibly long development period which was further delayed but scripting issues. Now it appears that the new Star Wars installment is destined to be one of the streaming platform’s biggest hits.
As of this writing, the most-watched series on Disney Plus are the various Star Wars and Marvel Cinematic Universe series. Both seasons of The Mandalorian are the most-watched series on the streaming service with Loki coming up in third place, just behind the first season of The Mandalorian in terms of how often it was watched. Now it could very well be that all three of these series could have a rival in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
The Premire Was A Hit
According to the official Star Wars Twitter account, the premier for Obi-Wan Kenobi is the biggest series premiere the streaming service has had. The exact numbers were not revealed but it was said that based on the number of views the series premiere had worldwide it is the biggest opening of any original series that the service has. Directed by Deborah Chow from Joby Harold’s scripts, the series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. The series will also see the return of legendary Star Wars composer John Williams, who scored a theme.
