Marvel appears to have been the most recent victims of a cyber attack with several of their official twitter accounts falling prey to hackers. Earlier today, several accounts for various Marvel projects simultaneously tweeted out a message from the hacker collective named OurMine Security Group.
The initial tweets included the email address of the hacker group along with this message to followers:
“Hey, it’s OurMine, Don’t worry we are just testing your security”
The main twitter account for Netflix also appears to have been targeted by the group, though the only Netflix series’ affected were the Marvel television shows.
Later, a second tweet was posted to the affected accounts, inviting followers to upgrade their security at an OurMine website.
Marvel later responded to the cyber attack in a comment to Comicbook.com.
“We’re investigating and taking immediate action to remedy the situation.”
The OurMine Security group is known for hacking celebrity accounts in order to promote their commercial services. In additon to the website TechCrunch, previous targets of the group include the Twitter accounts for Wikipedia creator Jimmy Wales, Pokemon Go creator John Hanke, Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey,Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Facebook co-creator Mark Zuckerberg. BuzzFeed has also been targeted in the past when the hacking group altered content on their website.
As of now, the Marvel related accounts target by the group include the accounts for Marvel Entertainment, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, Black Panther, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Captian America and Marvel Music. The posts from the hackers appear to have been deleted from each account. Stay tuned for more updates!
