Confirmed: Natalie Portman Not Returning For ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

With Dear White People and Creed star Tessa Thompson set to join the cast of Thor: Ragnarok as a potential love interest for the God of Thunder, many have been left wondering whether or not Thor’s old flame Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) would be returning. And it looks like Kevin Feige has put an end to all the speculation.

When asked about the Academy Award-winning actress’ lack of involvement in an interview on a podcast with Empire Film along with Captain America: Civil War directors Anthony and Joe Russo, Feige confirmed that Portman would not be returning.

“I can confirm that, yes.”

When asked for the reasons for why she won’t be returning, Feige continued:

“Many reasons. Many of which are in the film so you will see that. There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie. 80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos.”

I don’t find this news to be that all upsetting to me. I never found Portman and Chris Hemsworth’s chemistry to be believable and their relationship wasn’t all that compelling.

Principal photography is set to begin in June.

Directed by Taika Watiti and starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Jamie Alexander, and Tessa Thompson, Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3, 2017.

You can see Captain America: Civil War in theaters now.
