Olivia Munn Comments On The Future For ‘Psylocke’ After ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ & ‘Deadpool’ Success

xmen0001_0Without a doubt, one of the things that fans are looking forward to in the upcoming Bryan Singer directed X-Men: Apocalypse is the debut of Olivia Munn as the telepathic ninja Betsy Braddock aka ‘Psylocke’. Actress Olivia Munn has been front and center in the marketing and fans have been eating up what they’ve seen of her incarnation of the character so far. So, what lies ahead for the character post-Apocalypse? Could we see her become the female face of the franchise with rumors of Jennifer Lawrence moving on?

While speaking with MTV News, the actress did confirm that she has indeed signed a multi-picture deal but played coy about the character’s future in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Cinematic Universe.

“No, I don’t. I just know for this movie it was really important for me that Psylocke got to show off how strong and lethal she is with the fight scenes. So that’s what I know for this one.”

With Deadpool breaking the bank at the box office, Munn was then asked if she thinks that success could be replicated with an R-Rated X-Men film.

“I think what happened with Deadpool is a combination of Ryan being so amazing, and the writer, and the director, and everybody. For anything to be successful it has to be the perfect storm, so you hope you’re the perfect storm all the time, right?”

Are you interested in seeing more ‘Psylocke’ after X-Men: Apocalypse? Perhaps in a spin-off film or travelling across time to join the line-up for X-Force? Sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts on the matter.

Writer of words. Eater of pie. Drinker of coffee. Destroyer of worlds. Uh...yeah. Other opinions on this site are definitely not mine.

  • I wouldn’t trust Munn with any kind of a standalone picture. She’s not an actress, she’s a “personality.”

    She’s Rebecca Romijn as Mystique.

People are speculating about this rated R business way too much. I’m waiting to see “Kristen Bell talks about the possibility of a rated R Frozen Sequel” headline in the near future. Deadpool’s success has less to do with what it was rated and more to do with the creativity behind it.

That notwithstanding if they put Psylocke in X Force I wouldn’t object.

We all know that’s the error every studio will make. They will believe that the R rating is that one magical ingredient that made the movie so successful and they will try and copy paste and miss the point completely. The fact that this was not a copy paste of previous movies is why it worked so well. And like she said, it was a perfect mixture of many elements that came together so perfectly. The R rating was one reason of many that allowed them to go to that place that very few others had gone before since they where all limited by that PG-13 rating the studios imposed on them (among many other ridiculous rules they force when a lot of money is involved). Going into R rated territory allowed an extra flexibility. R rating does not necessarily equal more originality, but it should allow more flexibility to push the envelop with certain characters and that’s kind of exciting. But we all know most will miss this point and will simply try to copy and recreate the same formula over and over again until we all get tired of dark gritty R-rated superhero movies. I guess all we can do is to enjoy it while it’s still fresh.
