Huge news Oncers! Robin Hood is set to return to Once Upon A Time, EW has learned exclusively. Fans demanded answers after the fan favorite met an untimely death in Season 5.
Although details for his return are being guarded closely, we do know that the character is not returning from the dead. Actor Sean Maguire, who plays Robin Hood, is slated for a multiple episode story arc. Could this be a flashback? Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are excited to show fans what is in store.
We’re thrilled to have Sean back for this story arc and are excited for the audience to see what we have planned, which in the wake of his character’s heartbreaking demise, is something we hope is unexpected and surprising.
Even though we saw Robin Hood die and that his soul was lost, according to Hades (Greg Germann), Henry (Jared Gilmore) has doubts that this is really the case. In the Season 6 premiere he has a heart to heart with Regina about Robin’s soul and thinks it did move on after his death.
And although Horowitz and Kitsis do not plan to bring Robin Hood back from the dead like they did Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) they do discuss the possibility that Hades could be lying. They have also felt the fan backlash from Robin’s death and want to be respectful to them. So, sorry Oncers, it does not appear our heroes will be going to the Underworld to resurrect Robin.
We’ve had loss on this show, we’ve had people come back. We’re not going to the Underworld this year, so I can tell you that a lot of this year is about Regina dealing with loss and moving on, because I think Regina has the most unfair luck of anybody, but that’s what makes her Regina.
Horowitz goes on to clarify that he does not mean she will move on by falling in love with someone else right away. They want Regina to deal with the death and the aftermath in a real way.
Are you excited for Robin Hood’s return?
