‘One Piece’ Set Video Reveals The Live-Action Adaptation’s Baratie

The new video reveals One Piece's floating restaurant.

A new video from the set of the live-action One Piece Netflix series offers a close-up look at the exterior of the Baratie.

The Baratie is a large restaurant, based entirely on a towering multi-layered ship, recognizable by the distinctive fish head design at its front. The ship is run by the head chef, Zeff, supported by sous chef, Sanji. It serves as a floating oasis to feed hungry sailors and merchants. In the One Piece manga and anime, it is the setting for the “Baratie Arc,” which saw the ship come under siege from the pirate forces of Don Krieg.

A new set video, shared on Twitter by user @OP_Netflix_Fan, gives a first look at the Baratie’s live-action counterpart in Netflix’s upcoming One Piece. While an accurate rendition of the ship’s fish head, which can detach to form a separate attack ship, can be seen at the front of the set, the restaurant’s upper levels are absent. Given the vast size of the Baratie, it is likely that only a partial set has been constructed for actors to interact with, with much of the ship being added digitally in post-production. Check out the set video below:

While only a partial set, the scale of the Baratie and the level of detail are genuinely impressive. Hopefully, this early look at One Piece‘s Netflix adaptation bodes well for the series’ approach to its source material.

One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda is serving as an executive producer on the live-action series alongside Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios, a production company that also worked on Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop. Matt Owens and Steven Maeda are adapting the series for the streamer.

The One Piece cast also includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Taz Skylar as Sanji, Morgan Davies as Koby, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida, Aidan Scott as Helmeppo, Jeff Ward as Buggy, McKinley Belcher III as Arlong and Vincent Regan as Monkey D. Garp.

The manga series follows Monkey D. Luffy as he leads his crew of pirates in a search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as the “One Piece” to become the next Pirate King. Their journey brings them to all kinds of exotic islands and oceans across the Grand Line.
