While the Special Editions of the Star Wars Original Trilogy have their defenders, there are a lot of fans who want nothing more than to see the Original Trilogy as it was originally shown back in the late Seventies and early Eighties and have the movies restored to high-definition. Rumors about a such a restoration have been going on and on ever since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm back in 2012, but it appears as though 2017 might be the year that it actually happens according to a new report.
According to Making Star Wars, a remaster of the Original Trilogy is finally in the works.
…Over the last month the evidence and tips have been piling up that the unaltered original trilogy will be re-released this year for the 40th anniversary in various formats. Several sources have let us know it was coming and it appears to actually be on the way this time.
Their article repeatedly emphasizes that this is the real deal this time around, and that they will honestly be surprised if this doesn’t end up panning out this year. It was recently stated by Lucasfilm that the opening panel to Star Wars Celebration Orlando will have a couple of big surprises for the fans – could this be one of them?
