Oscar Isaac Discusses ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’: “Dark Second Chapter”

Oscar Isaac seems to be one of the coolest people in Hollywood right now. He has X-Men: Apocalypse coming to theaters next week where he portrays the iconic villain and is currently filming with Rian Johnson for Star Wars: Episode VIII – in which he will reprise his role as the dashing Resistance pilot Poe Dameron.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, discussed how Poe is a “much bigger deal” in the next chapter in the sequel trilogy. Originally, the character was supposed to die early on in The Force Awakens, but we can thank Isaac’s irresistible charisma for keeping him along for the ride in this trilogy.

In the new film, there’s a lot more to do. What happens now is the heroes get tested. All three of them– Poe, Daisy Ridley’s Rey and John Boyega’s Finn – get tested immensely.

Isaac was also asked about Poe’s trusty droid companion and instant Star Wars icon BB-8:

BB-8’s doing all right. BB-8 gets tested too! Everybody gets tested! It’s the dark second chapter, but not really dark.

It’s assumed by many that Rian Johnson’s Star Wars film would take a much darker tone compared to J.J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens. Much like The Empire Strikes Back, it looks like Episode VIII will be testing our main heroes and pushing them passed their limits. And although Isaac mentions our main heroes Rey, Finn and Poe, I think it’s safe to say that Dark Side user Kylo Ren will be tested as well.

Also, expect to see Isaac to be with the Star Wars family for a while:

It’s the first time in my life when things have been mapped out for quite some time. I’m basically Star Warring until 2020.

The best freakin’ pilot in the galaxy is not leaving us anytime soon.

Directed by Rian Johnson and starring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Anthony Daniels, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran, Star Wars: Episode VIII comes to a galaxy near you on December 15, 2017.
