Oscar Isaac blames “Disney overlords” for not exploring a Finn and Poe romantic relationship in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker!

There have been several complaints from fans with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker since the film has come out. While it was unrealistic for the film to satisfy everyone, one opportunity that seems to be missed by Disney was a romance between Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron. Oscar Isaac has been openly championing for a romance between Finn and Poe since Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Instead, we got LGBTQ+ representation with a quick kiss between two female resistance fighters at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. In an interview with IGN, Oscar Isaac shared his displeasure with Disney not being ready for a prominent gay relationship in Star Wars:

“I think there could’ve been a very interesting, forward-thinking – not even forward-thinking, just, like, current-thinking – love story there, something that hadn’t quite been explored yet; particularly the dynamic between these two men in war that could’ve fallen in love with each other. I would try to push it a bit in that direction, but the Disney overlords were not ready to do that.”
